Title: The Tarnished Knight

Author's Notes: I wanted to try and get into the head of a Xander Harris who was different, even more jaded, soul weary and has basically lost the 'core group of the Scoobies'. It shows a few years after Chosen. I think I might even do a story about this ficlet it's keeping me very interested. Series Archive here.
Summary: An experienced Hunter makes his way into St. Louis to kill something that's way over the heads of RPIT.
It's been a couple years since he's been to the states, lots of memories here, good and bad.
Heroes have died and villains have died. It certainly feels like more heroes are dead than villains. He was both, yet neither. It didn't matter, his hero had died years ago.
It didn't matter what he was anymore, he had a job to do, a hunt to go on.
The reporters were calling it 'a rogue werewolf attack'. He knew better, he's certainly has killed more dangerous things than rogue werewolves.
A demon, a wendigo. These people were all 'ooh' and 'ahh' with the legalized vampires that they forgot to be afraid of the dark and that there scarier things than lycanthropes and vampires waiting in the shadows for them. He never forgot and he kept hunting.
Adjusting his duffel on his pack and making sure his eye patch was secure on his face, Xander Harris entered into the city and ignored the 'Welcome to St. Louis - We Hope You Enjoy Your Stay!' sign.
